Artist: NORA WOMPI NUNGURRAYI
Nora’s work depicts her tradi onal country near Kunawarritji Community (Well 33), far to the south west of Balgo along the middle stretches of the Canning Stock Route. While the lineal pa erns in the pain ng represent the tali (sand hills) that dominate this country, the circular shapes represent the scarce rockholes (waterholes) do ed throughout the desert. According to Nora, this is good country for collec ng bush foods including pura (bush tomato) and kantjilyi (bush raisin). Through this beau ful pain ng, Nora tells of her country and its ability to give and sustain life.
