Artist: PUNATA STOCKMAN NUNGARRAYI
Acrylic on canvas
This painting depicts a journey of the ancestral budgerigar spirits who travel from east of Yuendumu across Central Australia during the Dreamtime. The budgerigar are represented by the brown ‘x’ or arrow shapes. The green circles in the middle are their eggs. The brown circles with white lines are kapi tjukula rockholes where the birds are drinking and also important ceremonial sites of the Budgerigar ancestors. The Budgerigar ancestors performed ceremonies and various other secert-sacred rituals in which the landscape was created and modified to what it is today.
